The Frankfurt Edit ist ein englischsprachiger Blog, dem ich selbst seit einigen Jahren mit Begeisterung folge, weil er immer wieder neue und richtig coole Tipps bietet, um unsere Stadt und das Umland zu entdecken. Aber auch f\u00fcr den Alltag ist er eine echte Hilfestellung f\u00fcr Neuank\u00f6mmlinge. Darum war die Bloggerin hinter The Frankfurt Edit auch schon lange auf meiner Wunschliste f\u00fcr diesen Podcast und ich freue mich sehr, dass sie heute meine G\u00e4stin ist: die wunderbare Janice Henry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Janice ist in S\u00fcdafrika geboren und aufgewachsen und nach mehrj\u00e4hrigen Zwischenstopps in London und Indien im Rhein-Main-Gebiet gelandet. Das gilt sowohl f\u00fcr Tipps rund ums Ausgehen als auch f\u00fcr den Alltag, z.B. wie man einen Kinderarzt findet. Mittlerweile ist The Frankfurt Edit sehr beliebt auch bei Tourist*innen und selbst bei Locals, die neue Orte in ihrer Stadt entdecken m\u00f6chten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>07:38 &#8211; Eines der Hauptziele von Janice ist es, mit dem Blog andere kleine Unternehmen und Entrepreneur*innen zu unterst\u00fctzen. Sie m\u00f6chte ihrer Leserschaft spannende Tipps f\u00fcrs Einkaufen, Essen, Kunst, Kultur geben, die nicht so offensichtlich sind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>11:37 &#8211; F\u00fcr Janice als englisch-sprechende Person war es viel schwieriger als erwartet, sich in Frankfurt zu Anfang zurechtzufinden. Deshalb begann sie einfach, die Dinge aufzuschreiben, die sie herausfand: um es anderen, die nach ihr kommen, leichter zu machen. Generell sind die coolen Orte und Events in Frankfurt nicht so einfach ersichtlich wie in anderen St\u00e4dten. Auf Instagram findet man einiges heraus, aber es fehlte eine Website, die die Informationen auf einen Blick zur Verf\u00fcgung stellt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>14:37 &#8211; Janice fand es viel schwieriger, in Deutschland anzukommen als in Indien. Niemand bereitete sie und ihre Familie auf die Unterschiede im Alltag vor. Zum Beispiel: wie das Gesundheitssystem funktioniert, dass Wohnungen ohne K\u00fcche und Lampen vermietet werden, was die Regeln f\u00fcrs Parken sind etc. Janice fand insbesondere die Nuancen im Alltag sehr schwierig zu lesen und f\u00fcr Neuank\u00f6mmlinge erstmal komplett undurchsichtig.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>19:55 &#8211; Eine Sache, die Janice an Frankfurt liebt: Es ist eine Gro\u00dfstadt, die aber klein genug ist, um alles schnell und mit wenig Aufwand zu erreichen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>22:57 &#8211; Janices Zukunftspl\u00e4ne f\u00fcr The Frankfurt Edit: Weitermachen, weiter wachsen und mehr Leuten helfen. Nach dem Studienabschluss in Rechnungswesen in Stellenbosch wollte sie die Welt sehen und zog nach London. Dort lernte sie ihren &#8211; ebenfalls s\u00fcdafrikanischen &#8211; Ehemann kennen und bekam ihre beiden S\u00f6hne. Nach zw\u00f6lf Jahren in London zog es die Familie nach Indien und wiederum vier Jahre sp\u00e4ter schlie\u00dflich nach Frankfurt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>29:33 &#8211; Janice ist sehr dankbar f\u00fcr die M\u00f6glichkeit, so viele verschiedene Kulturen kennengelernt zu haben. Einige H\u00fcrden hatte sie dabei anfangs untersch\u00e4tzt, zum Beispiel, wie wichtig es ist, selbst in einer so internationalen Stadt wie Frankfurt die deutsche Sprache zu sprechen. Sie ist aber vor allem gl\u00fccklich, in Deutschland gelandet zu sein, weil sie das Land sonst nie kennengelernt h\u00e4tte. Viele haben es nicht auf ihrer Reiseliste und untersch\u00e4tzen die kulturelle und nat\u00fcrliche Vielfalt, die es hier zu entdecken gibt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>32:29 &#8211; \u00dcber London: Janice und ich haben zur gleichen Zeit an \u00e4hnlichen Stellen dort gelebt. Vielleicht sind wir uns dort schonmal \u00fcber den Weg gelaufen! \ud83d\ude42 Bis heute geh\u00f6rt die Stadt zu ihren Lieblingsorten. London hat Janice viel geboten in all den Lebensphasen, die sie dort verbracht hat: als junger Single, als verheiratetes Paar und als Eltern mit kleinen Kindern. Speziell dieses Angebot f\u00fcr Kinder vermisst sie in Frankfurt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>33:49 \u2013 \u00dcber Indien: Janice liebt dort besonders die Energie und Atmosph\u00e4re. Sie warnt allerdings: Du musst dich aber darauf einlassen! Wenn du erwartest, dass alles wie am Schn\u00fcrchen l\u00e4uft, wirst du bitter entt\u00e4uscht werden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>34:49 \u2013 Eine Gemeinsamkeit von Indien und Deutschland: die vielen Feste durch das ganze Jahr! Nat\u00fcrlich unterscheiden sie sich sehr in Anlass und Ausf\u00fchrung. Aber das viele Feiern gef\u00e4llt Janice hier sehr.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>36:01 &#8211; In Indien hat Janice ihre kreative Seite entdeckt und ihre Leidenschaft f\u00fcr drei Dinge, die sie bis heute begleiten: Yoga, Fotografie und Schreiben. Alles drei nutzt sie in Deutschland, um Gutes zu tun: die Fotografie und das Schreiben f\u00fcr The Frankfurt Edit, Yoga als Lehrerin in ihrer neuen Heimat Bad Soden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>40:33 &#8211; Janice hat ihre Abenteuerlust von ihrer Mutter geerbt. Diese war als junge Frau mit dem Schiff aus S\u00fcdafrika nach Gro\u00dfbritannien \u00fcbergesetzt, als das noch sehr un\u00fcblich war. Sie hat au\u00dferdem darauf bestanden, nach der Geburt ihrer Kinder wieder zu arbeiten, im S\u00fcdafrika der Achtzigerjahre ebenfalls eher die Ausnahme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>42:13 &#8211; Was gef\u00e4llt Janice am besten an Frankfurt, was gef\u00e4llt mir am besten? F\u00fcr Janice ist es die zentrale Lage in Europa. In wenigen Autostunden kann man in einem anderen Land oder Kulturkreis sein. Was sie au\u00dferdem liebt, sind die Freib\u00e4der im Sommer. In London gab es kaum eine M\u00f6glichkeit, sich an einem hei\u00dfen Tag entspannt abzuk\u00fchlen. Mir gefallen die \u00fcberschaubare Gr\u00f6\u00dfe, die internationale Diversit\u00e4t und das starke B\u00fcrger*innenbewusstsein der Frankfurter*innen am besten. Die Menschen setzen sich wirklich f\u00fcr ihre Stadt ein.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>50:56 &#8211; Was tut Janice, wenn sie S\u00fcdafrika vermisst? Sie genie\u00dft am liebsten einen s\u00fcdafrikanischen Wein (wei\u00df: Sauvignon blanc, rot: Cabernet Sauvignon oder Merlot) und Biltong (ein Snack aus D\u00f6rrfleisch, \u00e4hnlich wie Beef Jerky). Ihre Kinder lieben Ouma Rusks, eine s\u00fcdafrikanische Zwieback-Variante. Es gibt in Frankfurt tats\u00e4chlich noch keinen S\u00fcdafrika-Shop. Today, The Frankfurt Edit is also very popular with tourists and even locals who want to discover new places in their city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>07:38 &#8211; One of Janice&#8217;s main goals with the blog is to support other small businesses and entrepreneurs. She wants to give her readers exciting tips for shopping, food, art and culture that are not so obvious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>11:37 &#8211; For Janice, as an English speaker, it was much harder than expected to find her way around Frankfurt at the beginning. So she just started writing down the things she found out: to make it easier for others who come after her. In general, the cool places and events in Frankfurt are not as easy to find as in other cities. You can find out a lot on Instagram, but there wasn&#8217;t a website that provided the information at a glance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>14:37 &#8211; Janice found it much more difficult to arrive in Germany than in India. Nobody prepared her and her family for the differences in everyday life. For example: how the healthcare system works, that apartments are rented out without kitchens and lamps, what the rules are for parking, etc. Janice found the nuances of everyday life in particular very difficult to read, as they are completely opaque for newcomers at first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>19:55 &#8211; One thing Janice loves about Frankfurt is that it&#8217;s a big city, but small enough to get around quickly and easily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>22:57 &#8211; Janice&#8217;s future plans for The Frankfurt Edit: Keep going, keep growing and help more people. London has offered Janice a lot in all the phases of life she has spent there: as a young single, as a married couple and as a parent with young children. However, she warns: You have to embrace it! Of course, they are very different in terms of occasion and execution.
