Gude und Buenos Días! Herzlich willkommen zu dieser Folge von Global Village 069 – Die Welt zu Hause in Frankfurt.

Dieses Mal besuchen wir auf unserer Weltreise durch unsere schöne Stadt endlich Südamerika, genauer gesagt nach Argentinien. Und ich kann mir wirklich keine bessere Person vorstellen, um dieses sagenhafte Land und seine Kultur hier am Main zu repräsentieren: Fabiana Jarma.

Ich übertreibe kein bisschen, wenn ich sage: Fabiana hat den Tango nach Frankfurt gebracht. In ihrer Academia de Tango im Ostend vermittelt sie das authentische argentinische Lebensgefühl auf der Tanzfläche. Und damit nicht genug, direkt nebenan verwöhnt sie in ihrem Restaurant Cocina Argentina ihre Gäste mit Steaks, Choripàn, Chimchurri und dem besten argentinischen Rotwein.

Diese bloßen Fakten sind an sich schon beeindruckend. Was mich bei Fabiana aber am meisten von den Socken gehauen hat, ist wie sie ihre Tanzschule und ihr Restaurant aufgebaut hat, nämlich mit schier grenzenloser Leidenschaft und Lebensfreude. Deshalb ein ernst gemeinter Rat: Wenn ihr diese Episode angehört habt, speichert sie und wenn ihr einen schlechten Tag habt, hört sie euch wieder an. Ihr ist es wichtig, den AUTHENTISCHEN argentinischen Tango zu unterrichten. Beim europäischen Tango geht es um Schritte lernen. Beim argentinischen geht es um Gefühl, um führen und folgen, um Improvisation. Man hat 3 Minuten lang eine nonverbale Kommunikation mit seinem Tanzpartner. Das macht süchtig!

10:13 – Anfänger*innen empfiehlt Fabiana, sonntags um 17 Uhr zur offenen Stunde zu kommen. Dort können sie unverbindlich reinschnuppern. Allerdings braucht man eine eigene Partnerin/einen eigenen Partner. Wenn man sicherer ist, kann man auch alleine zu den anderen Kursen oder Tangoabenden kommen.

11:47 – Der Nachteil vom Tango Tanzen: Man ist jeden Abend unterwegs! In jeder Stadt gibt es Tangoabende. Man muss nur morgens seine Tanzschuhe einpacken.

12:16 – Zum breitgefächerten Angebot der Academia de Tango gehören auch Tango-Reisen. Wen so richtig das Tango-Fieber gepackt hat, der möchte irgendwann nach Buenos Aires, der Wiege des Tango. Auf diesen Reisen gibt es morgens Tanzstunden, nachmittags Besichtigungen, abends Tango-Abende bis in die Morgenstunden. Fabianas Herausforderung: Nach der Reise alle wieder in den Flieger nach Deutschland zu bekommen!

15:49 – Neu im Angebot: Leadership Kurse nach dem Tango System! Hier geht es nicht primär ums Tanzen, sondern ums Führen und Folgen nach der Tango Philosophie. Ums Klar-Kommunizieren und Aufeinander-Eingehen. Der Kurs findet im November statt.

21:02 – Cocina Argentina: Fabiana hat direkt neben der Academia de Tango ein argentinisches Restaurant eröffnet. Das hat sich ganz organisch aus der Tanzschule ergeben: Bei den Tanzabenden hatten die Leute Durst, also gab es erstmal eine Bar. Dann hatten sie auch Hunger, also wurde irgendwann auch Essen angeboten. Der Star auf der Speisekarte ist argentinisches Steak, es gibt allerdings auch ein kleines Angebot für Vegetarier*innen und Veganer*innen. Und natürlich gibt es ausgezeichneten argentinischen Rotwein.

22:54 – Ein besonderes Highlight: Die Tango Dinner Shows. Es wird fein eingedeckt im Restaurant und die Trennwand zwischen Speiseraum und Tanzschule geöffnet. Fabiana und ihr Tanzpartner Julio tanzen inmitten der Gäste. Die Shows finden seltener statt als früher, alle paar Monate. Darum unbedingt auf die Homepage gucken und im Vorfeld reservieren!

25:05 – Fabianas Geschichte: Sie stammt aus einer Geschäftsfamilie und sollte Wirtschaft studieren. Aber sie wollte schon IMMER nur tanzen. So hat sie sich mit 13 Jahren selbst in einer Tanzschule angemeldet und hatte mit 15 ihren ersten Fernsehauftritt. Später an der Uni ist sie zum Schlafen in den Hörsaal gegangen, weil sie die Nächte durchgetanzt hat. Sie hat damals auch schon unterrichtet. Als ihre Eltern nach zwei Jahren schließlich merkten, dass sie eigentlich gar nicht Wirtschaft studierte, widmete sie sich ausschließlich dem Tanz.

28:33 – Wie kam Fabiana nach Deutschland? Ihr Onkel, der in Blaubeuren lebte, schlug vor, sie solle herkommen und den Tango hier bekannt machen. Das war Ende der 80er Jahre. Fabiana war damals 19 Jahre alt und somit damals in Argentinien noch minderjährig. Sie wollte am Vorabend ihres 21. Geburtstags von ihrer Heimatstadt Córdoba mit dem Nachtbus nach Buenos Aires fahren, um ihren Pass zu beantragen. Am Tag vor der Busreise jedoch hatte sie einen Motorradunfall. Also haute sie abends mit Unterstützung ihrer Mutter aus dem Krankenhaus ab. Mit verkratztem Bein fuhr sie 12 Stunden im Bus in die Hauptstadt und beantragte ihren Pass.

31:59 – Fabianas Onkel schickte sie nach Frankfurt für einen Deutschkurs bei der Lehrerkooperative. Sie ging aber nur einen Tag hin, weil der Kurs zu früh war. Die Lehrerkooperative fragte sie, ob sie Tango unterrichten könnte und half ihr mit dem Papierkram, Arbeitserlaubnis etc. Als Raum nutzen sie die alte, leicht heruntergekommene Kantine des Ex-KGB Hauses in der Mainzer Landstraße.

35:41 – 1989 kam die Tanz-Show „Tango Argentino“ nach Deutschland und löste eine Tango-Boom aus. Fabiana stand mit handgeschriebenen Zetteln vor der Alten Oper und bewarb ihre Tanzschule. Auf einmal hatte sie viele Schüler! Sie fing an, jeden Mittwoch „Milongas“, also Tanzabende, zu veranstalten. Diese Tanzabende laufen ohne Unterbrechnung bis heute! Es ging bergauf für Fabiana. Sie begann, Tangobälle zu veranstalten, unter anderem in den Räumen des HR.

39:25 – Als die Lehrerkooperative beschloss, nur noch Sprachunterricht zu geben und den Tango aus dem eigenen Programm zu streichen, musste Fabiana sich als Tanzlehrerin selbstständig machen. Ihr Umfeld sagte: „Mach dich selbstständig, aber du kannst NICHT gleichzeitig schwanger werden“. Natürlich wurde Fabiana genau zu dem Zeitpunkt schwanger. Sie arbeitete weiter, organisierte zum Beispiel einen Ball im HR. Sie sollte für eine Untersuchung einige Zeit ins Krankenhaus, büchste aber zwischendurch heimlich aus, um den Ball zu organisieren.

42:40 – Wie ist die Cocina Argentina entstanden? Zu ihrem 20jährigen Tango-Jubiläum in Frankfurt mietete Fabiana beim Museumsuferfest eine Tango-Tanzfläche. Das war so teuer, dass sie durch den Verkauf von Choripàn das Geld wieder reinholen wollte. Es war ein riesiger Erfolg, bis die Lebensmittelbehörde kam und sich beschwerte, dass Fabiana eine Überdachung für den Grill bräuchte. Also ließ sie einen ungenutzten Pavillon von den Menschen in ihrer Warteschlange über deren Köpfe bis zu ihrem Grill durchreichen! Später besorgte sie die nötige Konzession und eröffnete ihr Restaurant.

48:06 – Fabianas Lebensphilosophie: Sie hat alles gern gemacht, hatte Glück und tolle Leute um sich herum. Und: Angst ist der Feind! Habe Respekt, aber keine Angst! Was sie ihren Kindern sagt: „Macht was ihr wollt! Feiert ohne Grenzen, aber habt die rechte Hand immer an der Handbremse.“

49:58 – Fabiana hatte viele Jahre einen Foodtruck der Cocina Argentina beim Grüne Soße Festival. 2019 trat sie beim Wettbewerb an und wurde unter 49 Teilnehmern zur Gewinnerin gekührt!

55:27 – Wie schafft sie das alles? Erstens: Sie liebt, was sie tut. Zweitens: Sie ist konsequent! Nicht jeder Tag ist ein guter Tag. Aber mach weiter! Gib nicht auf! Sie ist eine Chefin, die sich reinhängt. Tagsüber sieht sie aus wie eine Bauarbeiterin, aber abends, wenn sie Tango tanzt, wie eine Diva.

Gude and Buenos Días! Welcome to this episode of Global Village 069 – The world at home in Frankfurt.

This time, on our world tour through our beautiful city, we finally visit South America. Argentina to be precise. And I really can’t think of a better person to represent this fabulous country and its culture here on the Main: Fabiana Jarma.

I’m not exaggerating when I say that Fabiana has single-handedly brought tango to Frankfurt. In her Academia de Tango in Ostend, she conveys the authentic Argentinean attitude to life on the dance floor. And that’s not all: right next door, in her restaurant Cocina Argentina, she treats her guests to steaks, choripàn, chimchurri and the best Argentinian red wine.

These mere facts are impressive in themselves. But what knocked my socks off the most about Fabiana is how she has built up her dance school and her restaurant: with sheer boundless passion and joie de vivre. So here’s some advice: once you’ve listened to this episode, save it and next time you’re having a bad day, listen to it again. I promise you, Fabiana’s style conveys courage, fun and a lust for life – and above all, of course, a desire to tango.

12:16 – The Academia de Tango also offers a wide range of tango tours. Anyone who has really caught the tango fever will want to go to Buenos Aires, the cradle of tango, at some point. On these trips, there are dancing lessons in the morning, sightseeing in the afternoon and tango evenings until the small hours. Fabiana’s challenge: getting everyone back on the plane to Germany after the trip!

15:49 – New on offer: Leadership courses based on the tango system. This is not primarily about dancing, but about leading and following according to the tango philosophy. About communicating clearly and engaging with one another. The course takes place in November.

21:02 – Cocina Argentina: Fabiana opened an Argentinian restaurant right next to the Academia de Tango. It came about quite organically from the dance school: People were thirsty at the dance evenings, so first there was a bar. Then they were also hungry, so at some point food was also offered. The star on the menu is Argentinian steak, but there is also a small selection for vegetarians and vegans. And of course there is excellent Argentinian red wine.

22:54 – A special highlight: the tango dinner shows. The restaurant is set up and the partition wall between the dining room and the dance school is opened. Fabiana and her dance partner Julio dance among the guests. The shows take place less frequently than before, every few months. So be sure to check the homepage and book in advance!

25:05 – Fabiana’s story: She comes from a business family and was supposed to study economics. But she has ALWAYS wanted to dance. So she enrolled in a dance school herself at the age of 13 and made her first TV appearance at 15. Later, at university, she went to sleep in the lecture hall because she danced the night away. She was already teaching back then. When her parents finally realized after two years that she wasn’t actually studying economics, she devoted herself exclusively to dance.

28:33 – How did Fabiana come to Germany? Her uncle, who lived in Blaubeuren, suggested that she should come here and spread the word about tango. That was at the end of the 80s. Fabiana was 19 years old at the time and therefore still a minor in Argentina. On the eve of her 21st birthday, she wanted to take the night bus from her hometown of Córdoba to Buenos Aires to apply for her passport. However, the day before the bus journey, she had a motorcycle accident. So she left the hospital in the evening with the help of her mother. With a scratched leg, she traveled 12 hours on the bus to the capital and applied for her passport.

31:59 – Fabiana’s uncle sent her to Frankfurt for a German course at the teachers‘ cooperative. But she only went for one day because the course was too early. The teachers‘ cooperative asked her if she could teach tango and helped her with the paperwork, work permit, etc. They used the old, slightly run-down canteen of the former KGB building in Mainzer Landstraße as a space.

35:41 – In 1989, the dance show „Tango Argentino“ came to Germany and triggered a tango boom. Fabiana stood in front of the Alte Oper with handwritten notes advertising her dance school. Suddenly she had lots of students! She started organizing „milongas“, or dance evenings, every Wednesday. These dance evenings continue to this day. Things were looking up for Fabiana. She started organizing tango balls, including in the rooms of the Hessischer Rundfunk (HR).

39:25 – When the teachers‘ cooperative decided to only give language lessons and remove tango from its own program, Fabiana had to start her own business as a dance teacher. Her environment said: „Start your own business, but you can NOT get pregnant at the same time“. Of course, Fabiana got pregnant at exactly the same time. She continued to work, organizing a ball at HR, for example. She was supposed to spend some time in hospital for an examination, but secretly escaped to organize the ball.

42:40 – How did the Cocina Argentina come about? For her 20th tango anniversary in Frankfurt, Fabiana rented a tango dance floor at the Museumsuferfest. It was so expensive that she wanted to recoup the money by selling choripàn. It was a huge success until the food authorities came and complained that Fabiana needed a roof for the barbecue. So she had the people in her queue pass an unused pavilion over their heads to her barbecue! She later obtained the necessary license and opened her restaurant.

48:06 – Fabiana’s philosophy of life: She enjoyed everything, was lucky and had great people around her. And: Fear is the enemy! Have respect, but don’t be afraid! What she tells her children: „Do what you want! Party without limits, but always have your right hand on the handbrake.“

49:58 – Fabiana had a Cocina Argentina food truck at the Green Sauce Festival for many years. In 2019, she entered the competition and was crowned the winner out of 49 participants!

55:27 – How does she do it all? Firstly, she loves what she does. Secondly, she is consistent. Not every day is a good day. But keep going! Don’t give up! She’s a boss who gets stuck in. During the day she looks like a construction worker, but in the evening, when she dances the tango, she looks like a diva.

Todo esto ya es impresionante de por sí. Pero lo que más me impresionó de Fabiana es cómo ha construido su escuela de baile y su restaurante: con una pasión y una alegría de vivir desbordantes. Así que os doy un consejo: cuando hayáis escuchado este episodio, guardadlo y la próxima vez que tengáis un mal día, volved a escucharlo. Te prometo que el estilo de Fabiana transmite valentía, diversión y ganas de vivir, y sobre todo, por supuesto, ganas de bailar el tango.

12:16 – La Academia de Tango también ofrece una amplia gama de tours de tango. Cualquiera que se haya contagiado de la fiebre del tango querrá ir alguna vez a Buenos Aires, la cuna del tango. En estos viajes, hay clases de baile por la mañana, visitas turísticas por la tarde y veladas de tango hasta altas horas de la madrugada. El reto de Fabiana: ¡subir a todos al avión de vuelta a Alemania después del viaje!

15:49 – Nueva oferta: Cursos de liderazgo basados en el sistema del tango. No se trata principalmente de bailar, sino de liderar y seguir según la filosofía del tango. Se trata de comunicarse con claridad y de comprometerse con los demás. El curso tendrá lugar en noviembre.

21:02 – Cocina Argentina: Fabiana abrió un restaurante argentino justo al lado de la Academia de Tango. Surgió de forma bastante orgánica a partir de la escuela de baile: La gente tenía sed en las veladas de baile, así que primero hubo un bar. Luego también tenían hambre, así que en algún momento también se ofreció comida. La estrella del menú es el bistec argentino, pero también hay una pequeña selección para vegetarianos y veganos. Y, por supuesto, hay un excelente vino tinto argentino.

22:54 – Un momento especial: la cena con espectáculo de tango. Se monta el restaurante y se abre el tabique que separa el comedor de la escuela de baile. Fabiana y su pareja Julio bailan entre los invitados. Los espectáculos tienen lugar con menos frecuencia que antes, cada pocos meses. Así que no dejes de consultar la página web y reservar con antelación.

25:05 – La historia de Fabiana: Proviene de una familia de empresarios y debía estudiar economía. Pero SIEMPRE ha querido bailar. Así que se matriculó en una escuela de danza a los 13 años y a los 15 hizo su primera aparición en televisión. Más tarde, en la universidad, se dormía en el aula porque se pasaba la noche bailando. Entonces ya daba clases. Cuando, al cabo de dos años, sus padres se dieron cuenta de que no estudiaba economía, se dedicó exclusivamente a la danza.

28:33 – ¿Cómo llegó Fabiana a Alemania? Su tío, que vivía en Blaubeuren, le propuso venir aquí y difundir el tango. Eso fue a finales de los 80. Fabiana tenía entonces 19 años y, por tanto, aún era menor de edad en Argentina. En la víspera de su 21 cumpleaños, quiso tomar el autobús nocturno desde Córdoba, su ciudad natal, hasta Buenos Aires para tramitar su pasaporte. Sin embargo, la víspera del viaje tuvo un accidente de moto. Así que salió del hospital por la noche con la ayuda de su madre. Con una pierna arañada, viajó 12 horas en autobús hasta la capital y solicitó su pasaporte.

31:59 – El tío de Fabiana la envió a Frankfurt a un curso de alemán en la cooperativa de profesores. Pero sólo fue un día porque el curso era demasiado temprano. En la cooperativa de profesores le preguntaron si podía enseñar tango y la ayudaron con el papeleo, el permiso de trabajo, etc. Utilizaron como espacio la vieja cantina, algo destartalada, del antiguo edificio del KGB en Mainzer Landstraße.

35:41 – En 1989, el espectáculo de danza „Tango Argentino“ llegó a Alemania y desencadenó un boom del tango. Fabiana se plantó delante de la Alte Oper con notas escritas a mano anunciando su escuela de baile. De repente, tenía muchos alumnos. Empezó a organizar „milongas“, o veladas de baile, todos los miércoles. Estas veladas de baile continúan hoy en día. Las cosas mejoraban para Fabiana. Empezó a organizar bailes de tango, incluso en las salas de la Hessischer Rundfunk (HR).

39:25 – Cuando la cooperativa de profesores decidió dar sólo clases de idiomas y eliminar el tango de su propio programa, Fabiana tuvo que montar su propio negocio como profesora de baile. Su entorno le dijo: „Empieza tu propio negocio, pero NO puedes quedarte embarazada al mismo tiempo“. Por supuesto, Fabiana se quedó embarazada exactamente al mismo tiempo. Siguió trabajando, organizando un baile en RRHH, por ejemplo. Tenía que pasar un tiempo en el hospital para hacerse un reconocimiento, pero se escapó en secreto para organizar el baile.

42:40 – ¿Cómo surgió la Cocina Argentina? Para su 20º aniversario de tango en Frankfurt, Fabiana alquiló una pista de baile de tango en el Museumsuferfest. Era tan cara que quiso recuperar el dinero vendiendo choripán. Fue un gran éxito hasta que llegaron las autoridades alimentarias y se quejaron de que Fabiana necesitaba un techo para la barbacoa. Así que hizo que las personas que hacían cola pasaran por encima de sus cabezas un pabellón en desuso hasta su barbacoa. Más tarde obtuvo la licencia necesaria y abrió su restaurante.

48:06 – La filosofía de vida de Fabiana: Disfrutaba de todo, tenía suerte y contaba con gente estupenda a su alrededor. Y: ¡El miedo es el enemigo! Ten respeto, ¡pero no tengas miedo! Lo que dice a sus hijos: „¡Haced lo que queráis! Festejen sin límites, pero siempre tengan la mano derecha en el freno de mano“.

49:58 – Fabiana tuvo durante muchos años un food truck de Cocina Argentina en el Festival de la Salsa Verde. En 2019, se presentó al concurso y ¡se coronó ganadora entre 49 participantes!

55:27 – ¿Cómo hace para hacer todo esto? En primer lugar, ama lo que hace. En segundo lugar, es constante. No todos los días son buenos. Pero sigue adelante. No se rinde. Es una jefa que se entrega. Durante el día parece una obrera de la construcción, pero por la noche, cuando baila el tango, parece una diva.
